Arts at The Farmhouse | Botanical Printmaking on Silk Scarves, April 29, 6:00-8:30pm and May 2, 10:00-11:00am

$165.00

The Farmhouse welcomes Grace Johnson in our first ever Seasoned Farmhouse Arts series learning the art of Botanical Printmaking. Sometimes called Eco-Printing, botanical printing is a fiber and natural dyes art technique that transfers the pigments, shapes and details of plant matter (leaves, flowers, bark, roots, etcetera) onto natural textile fibers using heat and pressure.

In this workshop, participants will learn and practice the fundamentals of botanical printmaking on fabric.  After a brief discussion on the history of this art form, each participant will design and bundle a silk scarf with provided flowers and leaves.  Afterwards we will have a deep dive conversation on mordants and fabric preparation, types of natural fabric, tannins, which leaves/flowers print best (and why), and other topics related to the science and alchemy of botanical printmaking.

This is a Seasoned Farmhouse Arts event and entails two dates to complete the workshop. The first date, April 29, is the printmaking workshop. Grace will then steam all prints and return them to you at The Farmhouse on the second date, May 2.

April 29 from 6:00-8:30pm: Botanical Printmaking techniques and dying

May 2 from 10:00-11:00am: The ‘reveal’ of your print to take home with you

All materials for this workshop will be provided.

Instructor: Grace Johnson
