Arts at The Farmhouse | Botanical Printmaking 101, October 22, 6:00-8:30pm and October 24, 10:00-11:00am

$165.00

After a wonderful response to our first Botanical Printmaking workshop, The Seasoned Farmhouse is delighted to welcome Grace Johnson back for another installment of the Seasoned Farmhouse Arts series.

Sometimes called eco-printing, botanical printmaking is a fiber and natural-dye technique that uses heat and pressure to transfer the pigments, shapes, and fine details of plant materials, including leaves, flowers, bark, and roots, onto natural textiles.

In this workshop, participants will learn and practice the fundamentals of botanical printmaking on fabric. After a brief introduction to the history of the art form, each participant will design and bundle a silk scarf using a selection of provided flowers and leaves.

Grace will also lead an in-depth discussion on mordants and fabric preparation, different types of natural fibers, tannins, which leaves and flowers print best and why, and the fascinating science and alchemy behind botanical printmaking.

This workshop takes place over two dates. The first session is the hands-on printmaking workshop. Grace will then steam the finished bundles and return them to The Farmhouse for the second session, when participants will unwrap their scarves and experience the much-anticipated reveal.

Oct 22 from 6:00-8:30pm

Oct 24 from 10:00-11:00am

All materials will be provided.
