Holiday Pie Workshop, November 12, 11:00am - 2:30pm
Discover the secrets to flaky, tender pie crusts, classic fillings, and beautiful homemade pies.
Join Chef Sue for a warm, hands-on class where she’ll share the traditions, techniques, recipes, and pie-baking stories she perfected over more than 30 years at her beloved Berardi’s Restaurant in her hometown of Huron, Ohio. From mixing and rolling dough to understanding the details that make all the difference, you’ll gain knowledge, tips from her decades of professional pie baking.
You’ll begin by learning Chef Sue’s time-tested method for making an incredibly flaky, tender pie crust from scratch—the foundation of every great pie. Along the way, she’ll share the techniques and troubleshooting advice that will help you understand why pie baking is both an art and a science.
Each participant will mix, roll, and prepare two freezer-ready pie crusts to take home, along with the recipes, techniques, and confidence to recreate beautifully flaky pie crusts in their own kitchen.
Working together in small groups, you’ll create a stunning pumpkin pie, complete with elegant handcrafted crust embellishments that will make your holiday dessert the centerpiece of the table.
Chef Sue will also demonstrate two timeless pie favorites. You’ll learn to prepare her mother’s old-fashioned homemade vanilla pudding filling—the rich, creamy foundation for both banana cream and coconut cream pies—and watch as she creates her delicious apple crumb pie with its tender apple filling and buttery streusel topping. You’ll take home the recipes so you can recreate these family favorites in your own kitchen.
As you bake, the kitchen will be filled with the comforting aromas of homemade soup simmering on the stove and fresh, crusty bread baking in the oven. We’ll enjoy a cozy meal together before returning to our pies.
Hands-On & Demonstration - You’ll prepare the meal alongside the chef, who will also demonstrate specific techniques throughout the preparation.
